The Heart of the Heartland

This piece is a celebration of alla prima oil painting, focusing on the interplay of light and texture. I utilized impasto techniques in the foreground flowers to create a tactile, three-dimensional feel that leads the viewer’s eye toward the subject. The foal, characterized by its distinctive white blaze, was painted with softer, blended strokes to contrast against the rugged, dark treeline in the background. My primary goal was to capture the "halo" effect of the backlight filtering through the mane, emphasizing the delicate youth of the animal against the raw energy of nature.
